The 14th Dalai Lama (Tibetan Buddhist Monk) was born on July, 6th 1935 as a fifth child to his parents. His parents Choekyong and Dekyi Tsering were farmers. He was named Tenzin Gyatso.

The thirteenth Dalai Lama turned to face the Northeast while he was dying, indicating the area where the next Dalai Lama should be found. The senior lama saw the house of the next Dalai Lama in his vision and a search for the house was arranged. They found the boy and Tenzin Gyatso turned in to 14th Dalai Lama at the age of three.

He is also called as Yeshe Norbu or Kundun. In western countries he is popularly known as "His Holiness Dalai Lama". Dalai Lama was named the leader of Tibet in the 50's. The army of People's Republic of China entered in to Tibetan territory on October 1950. He negotiated with China till 1959. He fled to India on March 17, 1959.

Dalai Lama heads the International Tibet Independence Movement. Dalai Lama works from the "government of Tibet in Exile" in "Dharamsala, India". Tibetan parliament-in-exile is elected by the refugees in India. This Buddhist Leader was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize on 1989 for his struggle towards the liberation of Tibet by peaceful resolution instead of using violence.

He calls himself as a "simple Buddhist monk".
